THE TRAINING
The training is usually taught over 6 consecutive days with classes lasting 3 1/2 hours each. Participants must attend all sessions. Once learned, participants will be self-sufficient in the techniques and can continue the practices on their own. The full set of breathing practices take 25-30 minutes to complete. Yoga stretching and meditation can complement the breathing practices.
Some of the practices can be used as needed, day or night to reduce sudden anxiety or to help one sleep. After training, periodic group sessions help support individual practice and provide the extra benefit of an extended guided practice lead by a certified instructor.
CUSTOMIZED PROGRAMS
Training can be customized to suit severe PTSD and most physical disabilities. For severe PTSD it is recommended to spread out the training over a longer schedule customized for the population and circumstances in consultation with their health professionals.
Those with physical disabilities, including hospitalized patients who may have limited physical movement, can still benefit greatly from the program's cornerstone breathing practice and from guided meditation practices. A separate program similiar to the training for veterans is available to family members of veterans.
